Binder‐free, thin film ( ca. 0.3 μm) LiCoO 2 electrodes have been prepared by the oxidation of metallic Co deposited on an Au substrate in molten ( Li + K ) CO 3 at 650°C under a ( 9 : 1 ) O 2 / CO 2 atmosphere. Electrochemical measurements were carried out in 1 M LiClO 4 / propylene carbonate electrolytes using cyclic voltammetry. It was demonstrated that cyclic voltammograms measured at 0.1 mV/s scan rate show a well‐defined, reversible three‐peaked wave due to extraction of Li + ions from the solid phase.
