Spatial patterns in temporal chaotic regimes of Rayleigh-B\'enard convection have been experimentally studied with a measuring technique able to resolve in time the gradient of the temperature field. We find two different time-dependent regimes, one characterized by oscillations localized in space and the other consisting of traveling waves. The transition between these two regimes is also analyzed.
