A polytransesterification method of preparation of the high‐molecular‐weight poly(alkylene H‐phosphonates) ‐ polymers bearing a reactive ‐OP(O)(H)O‐units, is described: magnified image Mechanism of transesterification involves mostly ‐OP(O)(H)O⊖, Mt⊕ “growing species”. The polyphosphonates were converted into a number of derivative polymers, like poly(alkylene phosphates), prepared by a direct oxidation, without decreasing of the DPn of the parent polymers.
