A detailed examination of Globodera rostochiensis cysts and eggs from sites at Botwood, Carmanville, Cupids, Manuels and Topsail was conducted. Nineteen fungi were observed in cysts and 21 fungi, representing 15 genera, were isolated from eggs. The predominant fungus, Fungus J, observed in eggs, produced a heavily pigmented aleuriospore and was present in 41 % of the cysts. Eggs removed from 225 cysts from each of the sites were used in the isolation of fungi. Coniothyrium fuckelii was recovered 60 times, Humicola grisea 66 times and Cylindrocarpon sp. 41 times from eggs from cysts extracted from sites at Cupids, Carmanville and Manuels, respectively. The only fungal isolate to be recovered from all sites was Fungus J. Fusarium oxysporum was most frequently present in eggs from the site in Manuels and frequently occurred in females and juveniles. These isolates, particularly Fungus J, may actively parasitize the eggs of this nematode in Newfoundland.
