Abstract 3‐Hydroxy‐2‐oxindoles are valuable biologically active molecules, and efficient methods for their synthesis under mild condition are highly sought after. Here we report a base‐ and metal‐free C(sp3)−H hydroxylation of 2‐oxindoles promoted by commercially available inexpensive TEMPO and atmospheric air as a hydroxylation reagent at room temperature. This protocol provides a mild and simple strategy for the construction of C−O bonds in moderate to good yields with wide functional group tolerance.
