High- J c YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7- x (YBCO) films on metal tapes have been successfully fabricated by the metalorganic deposition method using trifluoroacetates (TFA-MOD method) with optimal firing conditions. In the firing process, the key factors by which to obtain high- J c YBCO films on metal tapes are to prevent the films from deterioration by water vapour and to avoid BaCeO 3 creation between YBCO and the CeO 2 buffer layer. With the optimal conditions, we have successfully formed a 0.24 µm thick YBCO film on a metal tape, having a J c of 2.5 MA cm -2 (77 K, 0 T).
