Narrative review demonstrates the critical role of interpersonal trust in oncology, highlighting that patient-centered communication sustains adherence and resilience.
Oncology has witnessed extraordinary therapeutic advances, yet the essence of cancer care remains profoundly human. Trust, though often taken for granted, anchors patients in uncertainty, shapes adherence, and sustains resilience. Through clinical vignettes, we illustrate how trust is cultivated by presence, empathy, and professionalism—and how it can be eroded by divided attention or dismissiveness. Unlike protocols, trust is fragile, renewed with every encounter, and essential to outcomes. Preserving it requires conscious practice, respect, and patient-centered communication. In an era dominated by precision medicine, trust remains oncology's most enduring and indispensable bridge between patients and clinicians.
