Experimental study demonstrates catalytic asymmetric synthesis of eight-membered cyclic hemiacetal esters via chalcogen bonding, highlighting dynamic kinetic resolution via sulfur inversion.
A catalytic synthesis for chiral 8-membered cyclic hemiacetal esters assisted by chalcogen bonds (ChBs) is reported. The chalcogen bonds installed in the molecules stabilize the ring framework, affording the stable 8-membered cyclic hemiacetals. In addition, products were stereoselectively obtained using racemic starting materials by dynamic kinetic resolution via pyramidal inversion of the sulfur center.
