Clomiphene citrate was given for 6 days (50 mg q 8 hr) to a normal 15 2/12-yr-old-boy at midpuberty and 11 months later when he was in late puberty. No increments of serum luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) or testosterone (T) were found at midpuberty. During late puberty there were increases in LH, FSH and T of 208, 29 and 99%, respectively. Clomiphene appears to be an ineffective stimulator of gonadotropin release until advanced puberty becomes clinically evident.
