This case report describes the ultrasound diagnosis of a rare acardius acephalic complication in a quintuplet pregnancy.
Raises awareness of acardius acephalus in quintuplets among sonographers; leaves open optimal surveillance for co-fetuses.
Acardius acephalic monster is one variety of a rare complication of monozygotic monochorionic twin gestations. Pregnancies with a greater fetal number are increasing with the use of fertility drugs. When a serious complication like acardia affects one fetus, the accompanying risks to the other fetuses, particularly the cotwin, are difficult to assess. An experience with an acardius acephalic monster in a quintuplet pregnancy is described here.
