The lipases (triacyglycerol hydrolases EC 3.1.1.3) of Candida cylindracea and Mucor miehei were found to be highly enantioselective for the biocatalytic resolutions of enantiomers possessing multi-chiral centers. An important optically-active building block (−)-15 (with five consecutive chiral centers), for Venturicidin synthesis has been successfully prepared.
