The optical transmission properties of a nonlinear superlattice structure for oblique incidence of TE-polarized plane waves are investigated. A simple characteristic matrix method using the slowing varying envelope approximation is developed to obtain the reflection and transmisson coefficients from such structures. The nonlinear system is shown to possess a multistable output with total transmission states characterized by a solitonlike distribution of intensity in the layers.
