The dispersion relation of sound near the liquid-gas critical point is derived from coupled Langevin equations for a complete set of hydrodynamic variables. This result provides a microscopic basis for previous more phenomenological theories. As an application, we compute the universal amplitude ratio of critical sound attenuation in classical liquids.
