If two samples of a ferric hydroxide sol are exposed in the neighbourhood of an X-ray tube, one in the beam of X rays and the other outside it, a difference is produced in their sensitivity to electrolytes. The difference does not increase uniformly with increasing exposure, but shows fluctuations in magnitude which have been followed over exposures ranging from 20 r. to 130,000 r.
