Endoventricular pericardial patch repair following prosthesis removal successfully treated a delayed left ventricular rupture 72 hours after mitral valve replacement.
Prompt recognition and endoventricular pericardial patch repair can successfully treat delayed left ventricular rupture after valve surgery.
May offer salvage for rare delayed LV rupture post-MVR; leaves open generalizability and need for prospective validation.
A 70-year-old female developed rupture of the posterior wall of the left ventricle 72 hours after mitral valve replacement and tricuspid annuloplasty. She presented with hypotension and hemothorax. Endoventricular pericardial patch repair was performed after removal of the prosthesis. Prompt recognition and hemodynamic stability allowed institution of cardiopulmonary bypass and successful repair.
