Raman spectra of WF6, ReFe, OsF6, IrF6 and PtF6 have been obtained in the gaseous state with laser excitation. Except for OsF6, frequencies of the three fundamentals of each hexafluoride agree with those obtained either from Raman spectra of liquids or derived from infrared combination bands. A few overtones have been observed for the first time. Some of the subtle features predicted for OsF6 and ReF6 and attributed to dynamic Jahn‐Teller coupling seem to be much weaker than previously supposed.
