A technique for producing narrow-band interference filters for the far infrared, λ ≳ 50 μm, is discussed. Using this system it is possible to produce peak transmissions of 60% in the first order of a Fabry-Perot system with half-widths less than 5%. The technique does not use spacers and has a pitching accuracy of ± 1 μm. The performance of filters made using this technique at low temperatures is also considered.
