Elastic scattering of x rays is discussed near an absorption threshold of a ferromagnetic (or ferrimagnetic) system. Owing to resonant exchange scattering, the magnetization-sensitive components of the cross section can become comparable to charge-related ones. Large Thomson-resonant-exchange-scattering interferences are predicted. Changes up to {~}50% in the Bragg peak intensities upon magnetization reversal are expected in 5d transition-metal compounds, in rare-earth systems, and in actinide compounds.
