A new reactor for interphase heat and mass transfer operations in heterogeneous systems, which is based on the configuration of two impinging streams, was recently developed, and its effectiveness was successfully tested in solids drying and mixing. In a previous work (Luzzatto et al., 1984) the hydrodynamic behavior of the reactor was determined for a stream of air in which only a single kind of particle was introduced. The objective of the present study was to develop a method for predicting the hydrodynamic behavior of the two impinging streams reactor for different kinds of solid particles, which is based solely on particle characteristics such as density and diameter.
