Study of rates of organism spread In static columns of serum contained in standard suction drainage tubing indicates that wound contamination by retrograde spread up the tube is a possibility within 24 hours of the lower end of the tube becoming contaminated. Stasis of fluid within the tube appears to be a prerequisite for this effect.
