From these studies it is not only clear that Dupuytren's contracture is not caused by barbiturates but that it is a disease which almost certainly had a wholly genetic explanation. Idiopathic epilepsy is well known to be genetically determined and I have this morning shown that Dupuytren's is likewise. There would seem to be some linkage and as is common, a linked inheritance from adjacent genes may well prove to be the explanation of the common occurrence of Dupuytren's and epilepsy in the same individual.
