Summary Induction of labour with intravenous oxytocin by the “titration method” and by infusion of dilute oxytocin at a slowly increasing rate were compared in two groups of patients closely matched for age, parity, gestational age and indication for induction. Oxytocin titration reduced the induction‐delivery interval and the incidence of pyrexia in labour. The incidences of Caesarean section, postpartum haemorrhage, and fetal asphyxia were similar in both groups.
