A study of the occluded and long‐living macroradicals in the radiation‐induced polymerization of vinyl chloride in bulk has been carried out by using the ESR method and the post‐polymerization reaction. Our results show only minor contributions from these species to the polymerization rates. Furthermore, the dose‐rate dependence of the polymerization rate is close to 0.50, in agreement with a bimolecular termination. The ensemble of our results strongly suggests a steady‐state approach to the polymerization kinetics of vinyl chloride. The scheme proposed by TALAMINI et al. [Makromolekulare Chem. 117 (1968) 140] has been adopted and extended to a radiation‐induced polymerization.
