This study evaluates the seismic stability of veneer cover systems, addressing the sliding failure (SF) and uplifted-floating failure (UF) caused by retained water. The modified pseudo-dynamic (MPD) method, considering hydrostatic, hydrodynamic, and seismic forces, is employed. Comparison of the results with the literature under the pseudo-static (PS) and pseudo-dynamic (PD) loading conditions highlight the precision of the MPD method. Consideration of the visco-elastic behavior and soil damping in the analysis enhances the accuracy of the MPD method. Design charts are proposed for the determination of the allowable thickness of cover soil, which is cost-effective, ensuring seismic safety against SF and UF modes.
