The paper discusses how principles of corpus compilation and management can be employed to study recent changes in the use of lexical items by particular discourse communities. Applying a dialogical understanding of communication to the diachronic study of written texts, it proposes an innovative framework for a qualitative corpus-based analysis of discourse. The framework is then applied to study the use of English loanwords in texts written by members of the Russian pro-Communist community. The diachronic analysis of the uses of the loanwords through their paraphrases demonstrates how corpora compiled according to a set of pre-determined criteria (such as content-driven connections between texts and chronological arrangement) can offer the means to investigate the emergence of meanings within a discourse community.
