A coordinate-free approach to Fresnel’s equations is developed. The method applies to arbitrary transparent media, with light of either s or p polarization, at any angle of incidence. A graphical construction is described for finding the vector amplitudes of the reflected and transmitted waves. Total internal reflection and Brewster’s Law have a simple graphical interpretation.
