Physical maturation in sheep significantly alters ventricular repolarization, including a decrease in T wave height and an increase in ST segment duration correlated with the cardiac cycle (p≤0.001).

Summary Studies on the electrical ventricular systole in the sheep II. Repolarization The effects of physical maturation on the parameters related to ventricular repolarization in sheep at different ages were studied. The height of the T wave showed the most significant decrease between the first and fourth day of postnatal life; on the contrary, its duration showed a significant increase up to the second month of life. The wave form was also affected by physical maturation, in that the polarity of the T wave in adults differs from that of young individuals in the D‐, I‐ and aVF‐leads. The ST segment, which is increased in its duration with age increase, showed very significant correlations with the duration of the cardiac cycle and the duration of the ventricular electrical systole.

Tovar et al. (1986) conducted an observational in Ventricular repolarization in sheep. Physical maturation (age) vs. Younger age (birth/early postnatal days) was evaluated on Parameters related to ventricular repolarization (T wave height, duration, polarity, and ST segment duration) (p=≤ 0.001). Physical maturation in sheep significantly alters ventricular repolarization, including a decrease in T wave height and an increase in ST segment duration correlated with the cardiac cycle (p≤0.001).
