The Surgical Apgar Score was a significant independent predictor of postoperative complications in elderly patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery (HR 2.081, 95% CI 1.288-3.899, p=0.005).
Why the study?
Does the Surgical Apgar Score predict postoperative complications in elderly patients aged 75 or older undergoing surgery for colorectal cancer?

p-value: p=0.005
The Surgical Apgar Score is a simple and useful tool for predicting postoperative complications in elderly patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery.
May support risk stratification in elderly colorectal cancer surgery; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation.

(2012) conducted a cohort in Colorectal cancer (n=111). Surgical Apgar Score (SAS) was evaluated on Postoperative complications (Grade II or higher) (HR 2.081, 95% CI 1.288-3.899, p=0.005). The Surgical Apgar Score was a significant independent predictor of postoperative complications in elderly patients undergoing colorectal cancer surgery (HR 2.081, 95% CI 1.288-3.899, p=0.005).
