In laboratory bioassays, 2-chloro-ethanol (CH2C1 · CH2OH) acted as an ovipositional attractant and stimulant for gravid females of Dacus (Strumeta) tryoni (Froggatt) when presented on discs of filter paper at concentrations of 0.01-10% in water. The maximal ovipositional response occurred at a concentration of 1%. Higher concentrations of 2-chloro-ethanol had a repellent effect on the flies at close quarters.
