Synthesis of a novel new fluorocarbon film is reported. This film is obtained by plasma polymerization of a trimer mixture of substituted perfluorohexenses (C9F18). Use of low duty cycle pulsed or lower energy continuous-wave plasmas provides films in which −CF3 groups are the dominant functional group present. These −CF3 rich films are exceptionally hydrophobic as revealed by water angle measurements.
