Experimental study demonstrates strong broadband electromagnetic wave absorption in a ternary heterostructure, indicating potential for advanced radiation shielding.
It is of great significance to study electromagnetic wave (EMW)-absorbing materials for human health and safety. The focus is to develop effective absorbing materials with strong absorption and wide broadband characteristics. Current absorbing materials are mainly composed of two components, which rely on the matching of magnetic and electrical conductivities, while it is difficult to achieve strong absorption and broadband purposes simultaneously. In this paper, we designed a multi-interface heterostructure─which was effectively combined by three functional components with different properties─constructed a polar interface, and achieved the purpose of strong absorption and broadband. Therefore, the ternary CoO/CoSe 2 /g-C 3 N 4 (ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic/semiconductor, FM/AFM/SEMI) heterostructures were obtained by tailoring the reaction conditions of the hydrothermal method. The ternary heterostructure has the function of EMW consumption. CoO/CoSe 2 /g-C 3 N 4 exhibits a super absorption intensity, thereby delivering the minimum RL value (−65.55 dB) and absorption bandwidth for RL ≤−10 dB (5.7 GHz). It is proved that the heterogeneous structures formed by many kinds of magnetic (electrical) properties dissipate the entering EMW energy through various loss mechanisms. The strong wide-band EMW absorption of FM/AFM/SEMI (CoO/CoSe 2 /g-C 3 N 4 ) highlights their potential in EMW absorption systems.
