Chromosome counts are reported for nine species ofCentaureafrom Turkey. Five are new reports and three are confirmations or corrections of previous questionable counts. The correlation between the accepted classification of the genus and the karyology is briefly examined. A relationship between the reproductive behaviour (allogamy or autogamy) and the occurrence of dysploidy is suggested.
