Lentinan, a linear β (1–3) glucan with antitumor activity was tested for its activity on various immune responses. Lentinan had only minor effects on the plaqueforming cell response to sheep red blood cells but significantly stimulated antibody-dependent, cell-mediated immunity. This effect was due to stimulation of T helper cell priming by Lentinan, which amplified antibody synthesis. Lentinan, however, could not be demonstrated to increase sensitization of T killer cells in an allogeneic system.
