A series of analogs of rorifone were prepared for the purpose of studying the relationships between chemical structure and expectorant activity. Among the analogs, three compounds, namely, 9-methylsulphonylnonyl acctate (ⅩⅩⅪ),10-methylsulphonyldecanoic acid (ⅩⅩⅩⅣ) and o-methoxyphenyl 10-methylsulphonyldecanoate (ⅩⅩⅩⅦ) exhibited rather high cxpectorant activity in animal tests. Compound ⅩⅩⅩⅣ has been subjected to clinical trials and proved to be effective in treating certain types of chronic bronchitis.
