Formation of H‐, H′‐, and V1‐centres in pure KBr and KCl in Na+‐doped KBr is studied. It is shown that the growth of the H‐band is suppressed and the growth of the V1‐band is enhanced by Na+ impurity, and that the height of the V1‐band is proportional to the height of the H‐band. It is shown also that the height of the H′‐band is proportional to the square of the height of the H‐band below a certain H‐centre concentration, suggesting that the centres associated with the H′‐band are di‐H‐centres. The kinetics of the formation of these three centres is discussed in terms of the interaction volume of ejected halogen interstitials with H‐centres and impurities.
