Summary: The distribution of yeasts on cider apples has been studied in orchards of the main cider‐making counties of England. The typical fruit flora consisted almost entirely of small numbers of weakly fermentative, nonsporing yeasts. No species was found to be completely characteristic of a particular apple variety, but there were differences in the yeast flora of orchards in different counties.
