The thermodynamic treatment of a fluid in an electrostatic field is extended to the calculation of partial molal volumes of electrolytes at infinite dilution in methanol solutions. The electrostatic part of the free energy of the electrolyte may be interpreted in terms of the same intrinsic radii that are used in the volume computations. An expression for the ``primary medium effect'' is obtained giving good agreement between calculated values and literature data.
