Metagenomic analysis reveals distinct microbial diversity and functional profiles across urban green spaces, highlighting the impact of human vegetation management.
This study collected 9 top layer soil samples from three typical green space microhabitats (flower beds, lawns, and roadside camphor tree zones) within the campus of Gezhi High School in downtown Shanghai, with three biological replicates for each habitat. It aimed to reveal how human driven vegetation management shapes soil microbial taxonomic composition, community diversity and functional gene profiles in urban microenvironments. Shotgun metagenomic sequencing was performed on the DNBSEQ PE150 platform, followed by read quality control, de novo assembly, gene prediction, multidatabase functional annotation and multivariate statistical analysis. Alpha and beta diversity metrics, differential taxon biomarkers and KEGG pathway profiles were compared across groups to interpret microbial responses to fertilization, irrigation, mowing and litter input regimes of campus green spaces.
