Laboratory study demonstrates cooperative nickel-cobalt catalyzed reductive coupling of carbonyls with alkenyl halides, providing a chromium-free route to allylic alcohols.
Reductive coupling of carbonyl compounds with alkenyl halides offers a direct route to substituted allylic alcohols. We report a cooperative Ni/Co catalytic system that combines nickel catalysis with cobalt phthalocyanine to couple aldehydes and ketones with alkenyl halides under mild, chromium-free conditions. The method accommodates less reactive ketones and displays representative functional-group tolerance.
