Experimental study demonstrates dual photoredox and nickel-catalyzed synthesis of vicinal amino alcohols, indicating a mild, stereoselective route to valuable chemical scaffolds.
Herein, we disclose a novel redox-neutral strategy for the synthesis of vicinal amino alcohols via dual photoredox and nickel catalysis. This process allowed a range of vicinal amino alcohols to be prepared with excellent diastereoselectivity (dr > 20:1) and wide substrate compatibility under high-efficiency and mild conditions. The preliminary mechanistic investigations demonstrate that the stereocontrol relies critically on both the allyl motif acting as a directing group and the formation of an alkyl-Ni intermediate via reductive radical–polar crossover.
