Systematic review and meta-analysis reveals distinct antimicrobial resistance patterns across animal and environmental reservoirs, highlighting the need for sector-specific surveillance.
This systematic review and meta-analysis characterizes phenotypic and genotypic AMR data from animal and environmental sources in the Philippines, from studies published from 2014 to 2025. Specifically, the study aimed to determine pooled multiple antibiotic resistance index (MARI) and pooled resistance prevalence across bacterial genera, compare resistance patterns between animal and environmental sectors, characterize resistance gene prevalence where reported, and identify patterns across host species and One Health sectors. Our findings intend to inform sector-specific stewardship and surveillance optimization under a truly symmetric One Health framework, replicable across Global South countries.
