Astrophysical modeling reveals atmospheric retention thresholds in exoplanet TOI-1080b, indicating key limits on gas survival under thermal escape.
This paper investigates the mass and atmospheric retention potential of the exoplanet TOI-1080 b. Two candidate mass estimates are compared using bulk density to identify the more physically plausible value, which is then used to assess atmospheric escape via the Jeans escape criterion (Catling & Zahnle, 2009) for six candidate atmospheric gas species. The role of non-thermal escape mechanisms is also discussed as a limitation of this framework.
