Powdered samples for which isotopically controlled age determinations were available have been subjected to mild acid washes. Correlations were obtained between the age patterns of the samples and the isotopic composition of lead in the bulk samples and the acid washes. The bearing of these data on the problem of U/Pb, Pb/Pb and Th/Pb age discrepancies is discussed. The amount of loss of various lead isotopes from a mineral is not necessarily proportional to their abundances in a given sample at present.
