Newer revascularization strategies, including drug-eluting stents and off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery, offer benefits such as reduced repeat revascularization and durable outcomes.
This review summarizes evidence for newer coronary revascularization technologies, highlighting the reduced need for repeat revascularization with drug-eluting stents and the durability of surgical arterial revascularization.
May inform revascularization choices in CAD; extends Level 5 evidence but leaves open need for randomized confirmation.
Advances in coronary artery revascularization have been accompanied by clinical trials evaluating these advances. Part I of this paper addressed historic trials related to coronary artery revascularization. This paper reviews the data supporting newer revascularization strategies for our patients, including drug-eluting stents and off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery. Benefits include reduced repeat revascularization in patients who undergo percutaneous treatments with drug-eluting stents, the durability of surgical arterial revascularization, and the importance of medical therapy as the mainstay of treatment.

Gupta et al. (2006) conducted a review in Coronary artery disease requiring revascularization. Newer revascularization strategies (drug-eluting stents, off-pump CABG) was evaluated. Newer revascularization strategies, including drug-eluting stents and off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery, offer benefits such as reduced repeat revascularization and durable outcomes.
