The fluorescence spectra of toluene and benzonitrile have been studied using various sources of excitation. In both cases, discrete spectra have been observed in the near ultraviolet. The spectrum of toluene shows about 100 bands while that of benzonitrile shows about 140 bands. In both cases, there is good agreement with the absorption spectra. Progressions are noted and assignments are made for some of the vibrations in accordance with the symmetry properties of the molecules.
