Abstract β-Indole acetic acid (IAA) (10-7 - 10-5 M) enhanced elongation of Avena coleoptiles is shown to be correlated with increased K+ net influx and H+ net efflux. The data suggest a 1:1 exchange of K+ and H+. It is suggested that an IAA controlled K+-H+-exchange pump is involved in IAA regulation of elongation.
