Contrary to previous statements, such a pattern can evolve by orthogonal asymmetrical spreading without ridges jumping or otherwise affecting plate rigidity. Such evolution has been observed in wax experiments. Serrate ridges may also evolve if spreading is not orthogonal to transforms. This content is PDF only. Please click on the PDF icon to access.
