A numerical method for the solution of Biot's equation is proposed. The basic equations are made independent of time by application of a Laplace transformation, numerical analysis is performed in the Laplace transform space, and the approximate transforms inverted to obtain the solution. This process leads to a form of solution which is well suited to calculations at moderate and large times. It is shown how a combination of the proposed method and traditional ‘marching’ solutions can be used to obtain an accurate solution for all times.
