The effects of parallel resistance on the stability of a discharge whose impedance can be represented by a negative differential resistance, positive or negative inductance and degression time, and a capacitance, are examined, with special reference to the normal to transitional Townsend regime of cold cathode glows. The results are consistent with the few available observations.
