External irradiation of the neck has been shown to increase the incidence of thyroid carcinoma in children and young adults. More recently reports have been made noting that carcinoma of the thyroid has been observed following treatment of hyperthyroidism with radioiodine-131. The case history of a patient dying from thyroid cancer six years after 131I therapy is reported. Thirteen other such clinical situations have been noted in the literature and are briefly reviewed along with the case history being reported.
